A Woman in India

This fate was sealed
the moment I was born

Born in a cage I was
condemned to live there

My mind got trapped in a box
so it could not escape

Life’s choices were eliminated
when my gender was revealed

I hear there are lands and people
which offer freedom and opportunities
- words which ring a bell with remote
abstract connotation in my brain

For as if I live my life each day
in a translucent glass ball
I am unable to see the outside
world but they see me alright!

  1. Hmm...few decades back situation..compared with today's evolved/evolving society's scenario creates room for debate on the matter and negativity it carry's!

  2. the story of less and less may be but still a considerable number. the question is not whether they have physical independence, the question is whether their mind is allowed to run free. i think not! i have been told so by many women in different ways. and look at the statistics and reports about position of women in india. i think we all are living in glass houses - deluding ourselves that things have improved.
